Sweeney Todd Phoenix Theatre reviews
Meh
I was super disappointed that they only played two songs I had never heard before in my life. I confess to being an "older" fan of 50, but I have been a devoted fan for many years. My 12-year-old daughter, who listens to more recent DMB, also didn't recognize anything they played. The only classic DMB they played was a cover of "All Along the Watchtower" with a little Led Zeppelin thrown in that was interesting and fun, and "Satellite." They played none of our all-time favorites, even for the encore. I've never seen so many people leave a concert early, especially on such a beautiful night. Everyone on the lawn just kind of gave up about a third of the way through. Sound was OK; stage lighting and backgrounds were very cool and probably the most entertaining part of the show. Tim Reynolds' guitar solo was the highlight. The parking and traffic in and out of Ameris Amphitheater were a disaster. Will not return to this venue until they do something about the logistics. I had a pleasant night hanging out with my kid and friends, but we could have just as easily done that at someone's house. Listening to our favorite songs from Apple Music on the Bose for a lot less cash and hassle would have been better. Did love and bought one of the tour t-shirts--that was sadly the highlight of the evening along with the weather. Not hearing any of my favorite songs was a letdown. I would have settled for even just one after waiting all night to be able to dance and sing along with my daughter and friends. People were waiting for the good stuff to come on that never did. Will be checking set lists in advance of any concert from now on. It just never occurred to me when I bought the tickets that I would hear exactly zero of my favorite songs!
